I have recently completed two new small sculpted figures. They are ceramic, finished with a black / brown glaze. The lying figure has been further decorated with gold leaf. Both are mounted on found pieces of wood.
I love finding the bases. They are cast-off pieces from wooden fence posts or rescued from reclaim yards. I also keep an eye open for bits of wood while out walking. Before using as bases they are sanded, then I sometimes char the wood and possibly add metal to some. Finally waxing the wood brings out the grain and colour.
The standing figure is about 35 cm tall and the base is around 9 cm. The lying figure is about 25 cm in length and with the base about 25 cm tall.
