The Affordable Art Fair took place between March 11th and 15th in London’s Battersea Park. This is a well organised annual event, with everything from free shuttle buses between Sloane Square and the Park, to great tea and cakes and a Laithwaites wine bar. We were there as part of the Doorway Gallery display.
The work on offer has to be priced from £100-£5000, although some might question that £5000 is “affordable” for many. In reality there was very little priced at under £1000. It’s fun to imagine how some of the darker wall pieces (paintings?) might ‘brighten up’ the walls of a London condominium.
Each stand is taken by an established Art Gallery and most of what is on display is 2D art. A few galleries, including the Doorway, made more of the 3D work, but for many it seemed to me to be a token gesture to pretty up the display.
It was a great weekend for R&B Ceramics and we sold well on all four days. At one point extra pieces had to be transported on the tube from Amersham up to London. Denise, of Doorway Gallery, is an amazing seller!
Our next show with the Doorway Gallery will be the “20/21 British Art Fair” at The Royal College of Art in London, 14-17 May 2015.
